The gfcf diet can “cure” Autism in some Cases

Again, I am compelled to remind everyone of how important he gfcf (casein and gluten free)

diet is when one of my new patients) lost most of his “symptoms” of Autism just on the basis of this diet alone. Casein is all dairy products including yogurt. Goat’s milk and sheep milk have less casein but any trace still causes problems in healing the brain ; so we advocate NO dairy products. When shopping for dairy substitutes, make sure the ingredients have no CASEINATE in it. Gluten is found in oat, wheat, barley and rye.

If started early enough, there have been cases of Autistic kids losing their diagnosis of Autism just on tech basis of the diet alone. The diet has to be so clean that you don’t even share the same toaster as gluten products; or in restaurants, that they don’t use the same oil –so no cross-contamination. If you can’t be that clean, still do your best. I find that taking 2 AFP Peptizide enzyme capsules from Houston help mitigate minute amounts of casein or gluten should your child sneak something in or should the source not be as clean as you would like.

Remember that there are 2 main ways of being allergic to something: IgE which is tissue bound and immediate: so if you are exposed to something the IgE way, you will know it since you will get a rash, or diarrhea, or bad behaviour if it is an Autistic child. IgG is the delayed anti-body mediated response. So the effect is not immediate. If you allergic to something the IgG way, you might be exposed to it on Monday and get a headache on Wednesday..also the effects are not obvious. So tin the Autistic child, when exposed to casein or gluten, it will express itself in language delays and other symptoms of Autism, not in immediate behaviours. So often a parent will say, but we went on the gfcf diet and did not notice any changes. Remember that we don’t know how much damage is done to the brain and we don’t know how long it will take for it to heal in the absence of damaging effects of casein and gluten. So it is almost a faith based action, to continue the gfcf diet in the absence of any immediate obvious improvements. All I can tell you is that if you continue, the brain is given a chance to heal and your child will be given a chance to regain all the losses.

Now some kids respond immediately and we all rejoice in that, but for some kids, it will take years..unfortunately, we don’t know why that is…all we can do is keep the faith and do our best for our kids. Because the diet is so hard, some parents try to convince me that it is OK not to be on it. I remind them that I am not God; even if I say that it is OK, it does not make it so. The facts are the facts. Having my own Autistic son, I know how hard the diet is; but having kept the faith and keeping him on this diet in the face of no immediate response has laid the foundation for healing…Every day he speaks more, is more affectionate and social and more aware..so the price is not too high. We just have to make up our minds to not make belief and do what must be done.

I shall write a part 2 to this to explain why the gfcf diet is important on a biochemical basis.

God bless all of you!
